US lifts travel ban on eight African countries
The White House said on Friday that the Biden administration would lift travel restrictions on eight southern African countries imposed last month over concerns over the rapidly spreading variant of COVID-19 Omicron. A senior official said foreign nationals cannot travel to the United States because they have been in one of eight countries, including South Africa, will again be allowed to board flights to the states. -Unis leaving after midnight on December 31st. Reuters earlier reported that US public health agencies had recommended lifting travel restrictions because the Omicron variant is already prevalent in the United States and existing vaccines and boosters appear to be very effective against it. Earlier this month, the CDC toughened testing rules for international air travelers arriving in the United States, requiring them to obtain a negative COVID-19 test within one day of travel. Last week, the CDC began distributing free COVID-19 home test kits to international travelers at several airports.
