A shooting in downtown Sacramento early Sunday left at least six people dead and nine injured, police said.
Details of the shooting were unclear, but the police initially told members of the public to avoid several blocks near the Capitol Park area of the city because they were investigating a shooting with “multiple victims”.
Sunday morning the authorities have confirmed that police had located 15 victims, including six dead, but they did not give further details.
Darrell Steinberg, the mayor of Sacramento, said the Twitter that “words cannot express my shock and sadness this morning.”
“The number of dead and injured is difficult to understand,” Steinberg said. “We await further information on what exactly happened in this tragic incident.”
This is a developing story.
