Sinead O’Connor’s loved ones are asking for privacy during the ‘difficult’ time following the death of her teenage son.

“The family has requested confidentiality during this difficult time,” a representative for O’Connor’s ex, Donal Lunny, an Irish folk musician who is also the father of her late son Shane, told Fox News Digital.

On Friday, reports surfaced claiming that O’Connor, 55, was hospitalized after allegedly posting a series of distressing tweets on Thursday to an unverified Twitter account believed to be hers.

The tweets were posted just days after her son Shane O’Connor died aged 17.

“I decided to follow my son. There’s no point living without him. Everything I touch, I ruin him. I only stayed for him. And now he’s gone,” the singer said, who had already spoken openly about his suicidal thoughts. and her own mental health issues, reportedly wrote on the unverified account, adding, “My kids don’t want to know me. I’m shit. And y’all think I’m nice because I can sing. I’m not .”

Another tweet from the account on Thursday read “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I’m with cops now on my way to the hospital. I’m sorry I upset everyone. I’m Lost without my child and I hate myself The hospital will help for a while But I’m going to find Shane It’s only a delay.

O’Connor’s alleged account also shared an update on Friday, writing, “I’m sorry for what I tweeted yesterday. I’m very upset. My son was the love of my life. I’m sorry for upsetting Tusla and just about every other human on earth too. I’m ruined without my son. I’m sorry I upset anyone. I’m a t—.”

Representatives for the singer confirmed to Fox News last week that Shane had died after going missing in Ireland.

“Sadly, we can confirm the passing of Shane O’Connor. We politely ask for the respect and appreciation of Sinead and Shane’s family at this most difficult time,” the statement read.

Irish police released a statement last Friday confirming the teenager was missing and was last seen in Tallaght, south Dublin, on January 6.

“Gardaí are asking for the public’s help in locating the whereabouts of a missing teenager. Shane O’Connor, 17, has been missing from Newbridge, Co Kildare since Thursday morning January 6. He is described as 5’6 ” with a little brown hair and blue eyes. Shane was last seen in Tallaght, Dublin 24 yesterday. When last seen he was wearing a black hoodie with a large print down the center, dark track pants, a burgundy t-shirt and white sneakers,” police said.


Sinead released a memoir titled “Rememberings” last June that discussed her music career and the struggles in her life.

“It’s my story, as I remember it. I’ve had a lot of fun writing it over the past few years,” she said in a statement at the time.

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter previously announced that she was considering retirement, but later retracted her statement.

“Good news. Fucking retirement. I’m retracting. I’m not retiring”, she tweeted last summer. “I was temporarily allowing pigs in lipstick to fuck my head off…here’s my statement…in the form of these three photos. It’s ‘colorful’ but that’s me :).”


Sinead added that her announcement of retirement was a “reflex” reaction and instead said she felt “safe in retracting my expressed wish to retire”. The musician also revealed at the time that she plans to play all the shows she has scheduled for 2022.
