At least ten people were killed by a gunman at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, local media reported.
The gunman opened fire after entering the supermarket located in a black-dominated neighborhood, Xinhua news agency reported.
The shooter was taken into custody, the Buffalo Police Department tweeted.
US President Joe Biden has been briefed on the “horrific shooting” in Buffalo, according to the White House.
Biden “will continue to receive updates throughout the evening and tomorrow as new information develops,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement. .
The shooter is a white man in his late teens or early 20s wearing a black helmet, according to a New York Post report citing two witnesses to the carnage.
An investigation is ongoing to verify whether the shooter posted an online manifesto and whether the shooting was allegedly broadcast live, the report said, citing a local law enforcement official.
Investigators are also working to find out if the shooting was racially motivated, the report adds.
