Shawnee and Olathe Courts allow school supplies to replace fines

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ks. (KCTV) – Those who got a ticket in Shawnee will have the option of having a portion of their court fines and/or warrant fees paid through the Fines School Supply Program.

$50 can be deducted from fines for $15 of supplies and $100 can be deducted for $30 of supplies. $30 is the maximum amount of supplies that can be donated.

Residents will be required to show a receipt, have supplies in their original packaging, and be prepared to pay any remaining balance.

DUI fees do not count towards the program.

Those who work with the City of Shawnee say a program like this benefits everyone. They say it gives residents a break while ensuring students have what they need for the new school year.

“We really see this as a win-win situation. We’re collecting all of these new school supplies and then we’ll give them to the Shawnee Lions Club and they’ll take them out and distribute them to kids who might need all of these school supply lists filled out before they go back to school,” Julie Breithaupt said. , Communications Officer for the Town of Shawnee.

The following school supplies are acceptable for the program:

  • Erasers Highlighters Workbook Pencil sharpeners Pencils Glue stick
  • Colored pencils Cards Cards Disinfecting wipes

  • 1-subject wide-lined notebook Loose-leaf wide-lined filler paper
