Several people are pronounced dead after shooting at a Walmart in Virginia

Several people were killed and others were reportedly injured by a gunman at a Walmart store in Chesapeake, Va., on Tuesday night, city officials said.

The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. local time, when the store was still open to the public. One person was found dead outside Walmart’s main entrance, but most of the victims were found inside the store, police told WAVY-TV.

A police spokesman said he believed less than 10 people had been killed, but there were no exact figures for the dead or injured as of early Wednesday morning.

The shooter is believed to have died later Tuesday evening.

Virginia State Senator Louise Lucas (D) said she was “heartbroken” over the shooting that occurred in her district.
