Solveig Gold, wife of former Princeton University professor Joshua Katz, wrote a sub-pile post that detailed her relationship with her husband, who spoke about a July 2020 proposal from the school to wrestle against racism on campus.

Several of Katz’s colleagues at Princeton signed the faculty letter, which suggested offering “colored” professors summer pay and additional sabbaticals, among other things.

Katz wrote a response to anti-racism proposals in Quillette and said that while he supported some ideas, others would “lead to a civil war on campus and further erode public confidence in the workings of elite institutions in the world.” ‘Higher Education”.

The university president spoke out against Katz in the Daily Princetonian and, according to Gold, “academics across the country have accused him of inciting violence” and an investigation has been launched.

“Eventually the university called off its investigation. But the damage was done: Joshua was now an outcast,” Gold wrote.

Katz was fired from Princeton University on Monday. The university cited his reluctance to cooperate with a sexual misconduct investigation as the reason for his dismissal.

Gold noted in his essay that Katz told him about a relationship he had with a college student.

“At the start of our dating in 2018, he confided in me about the worst mistake of his life: a consensual relationship with a Princeton student in the mid-2000s. He told me about the anguish and pain it had caused them both. And he told me that a third party had, after all these years, brought the relationship to the attention of the university and that he would probably be punished with an unpaid suspension from a year,” Gold wrote.

Following the president’s public reprimand of Katz, according to Gold, Katz’s friends dumped him without talking to him first. A college friend of his didn’t speak to him for weeks and eventually wrote “a few lines to express his disappointment.”

She said that following Katz’s article in Quillette, the Princeton student newspaper began digging into her past and “reignited” the “frenzy” about her past relationship with a student.

Many of his supporters believe the firing is punishment for speaking out against the university’s July 2020 anti-racism demands.

Katz’s lawyer, Samantha Harris, agreed with the criticism, saying the past relationship he had with a student was settled and it was punishment for his political beliefs.

“If voicing an unpopular opinion is an invitation to turn your personal life upside down in search of damaging evidence, how many people will be willing to speak out?” she told the Wall Street Journal.
