Savannah Marshall says Claressa Shields won’t be able to handle her power after recording brutal Femke Hermans knockout

Savannah Marshall successfully defended her WBO middleweight title with a brutal knockout of Femke Hermans.

The victory has now set up one of the greatest fights in women’s boxing history as she takes on WBC, IBF and WBA champion Claressa Shields.

Marshall’s victory was emphatic and issued a warning to his next opponent, Shields

The win at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on Saturday night was a 12th win for the unbeaten fighter, who has won ten of her fights by knockout.

In the early rounds of the contest, Marshall took a measured approach and calculated his attacks.

But it didn’t take long for the 32-year-old Belgian to be discovered, and in the closing stages of the third round she was dealt a vicious left hook that sent her to the canvas that ended the contest.

The manner of victory was so impressive, and now the British boxer hopes to go 13-0.

Although no date has been agreed between the Hartlepool fighter – who is trained by Peter Fury, the uncle of heavyweight champion Tyson – and the American, it is highly anticipated that the two will meet.

The fight is shaping up to be exciting and Marshall threw down the gauntlet to Shields after the win.

“There’s no one else in the way between me and Claressa so it’s me and her in the summer now,” Marshall told Sky Sports.

“I know Claressa can’t handle my power. I believe I can beat her.

“It has to happen here in the Northeast.”

That said, Shields didn’t seem troubled by the Brit’s comments as he watched the contest ring.

“Congratulations, that’s what you’re supposed to do,” Shields told Sky Sports.

“I said she would do this with Femke. I’m not Femke Hermans, I’m not Hannah Rankin, I’m not one of those girls she fought against.

“As much punching power as she has, I’m sorry to tell you, if that’s what I have to look forward to, it’s going to be an annihilation.”
