Newbury racing tips

1.55: Victory Dance 4/6

An easy choice considering the horse trained by Charlie Appleby only carries 5 pounds more or the same amount as his rivals despite his 105 rating.

The strike rate for William Buick onboard (24%) and Appleby (33%) is a great indication and the Godolphin juggernaut may hit another short-term winner.

4/6 were the best odds at the time of writing, but going up early here could be crucial as it wouldn’t be surprising to see the colt go even shorter.

2:30 p.m.: Zachary 7/4

Another top race at Newbury sees another small but fairly open field with heavy favorite Zechariah ahead of a few inconsistently shaped riders this season: Away He Goes, Universal Order, Outbox and Silence Please.

But the young favorite is easy to imagine given Outbox’s last two races have been below average and he will carry an additional 10 pounds to the three-year-old rival.

Zechariah is interesting with Tom Marquand on board and finished just behind Eldar Eldarov in June and then Deauville Legend here at Newmarket last time out.

His form is further boosted after conquering Group 1 winner Westover and looks sure to do all this time.

3h35: Chindit 9/2

The BetVictor Hungerford Stakes is a stunning Group 2 clash that has drawn ten runners to take part in an intriguing battle between top-notch horses.

Tiber Flow is still on an upward curve as the only three starters at three, with a very promising career this season.

There are clear indications he can continue to improve, especially given a very respectable eighth in Group 1 company at Royal Ascot in June, behind Perfect Power.

But it is Chindit who is looking to take this one, despite being the highest weight he has incredible group form, including several times behind Baaeed, the highest rated horse in the world.

Ripon Race Tips

2h50: Good Earth 20/1 & Fortamour 14/1 one way

This is the perfect run for those looking for a one-way punt.

A 6f sprint with 15 runners all in pretty good shape to start too.

Good Earth could be a huge prize given his consistency on 6f this season with fantastic form.

The five-year-old will only go 8-2 as he moves up to Class 2 and can’t be ruled out just for that.

It might also be worth supporting Fortamour, who loves it at Ripon and seems like a steal at this price, considering he was just two and a quarter lengths behind Gale Force Maya in his last run.

Perth Running Tips

2.35: Mortlach 4/1

The jumps are finally back in full force as Perth hosts a big meeting on Saturday afternoon.

Paddy Brennan and Fergal O’Brien are once again teaming up aboard Mortlach which, before being refitted last month, was on a phenomenal unbeaten run.

This lightweight 7-year-old won by 11 l in a class 3 novice chase in June, after three other convincing victories.

Some might be put off given the two recent Quantum Realm wins for Sean Bowen and Gordon Elliott, but the gelding won’t mind rising to the top weight.
