The government announced a salary increase for civil servants from 1er July. For some, this is not enough in the face of rising prices.

Teachers, nurses, police officers, tax officers… The 5.7 million civil servants will benefit from a 3.5% salary increase from 1er July. This revaluation does not satisfy everyone. “It depends on the index, for me we are around 70 euros per month”, says a man. Since 2010, the index point has been revalued twice: in 2016 and 2017 by 0.6% each time. Two long periods of frost followed one another.

“As soon as the revaluation is below inflation, we will only see a further deterioration in the purchasing power of millions of civil servants”, argues a CGT official in the public service. The Minister of Public Service, Stanislas Guerini, defends himself. He adds the individual increases of 1.5% to the 3.5% announced. “We come to provide a very concrete response of 5%, on average, on the pay slip of civil servants”he says.
