Sadio Mane retires with a huge goal, but can Liverpool lift the trophy?

It’s the Champions League final on Saturday and my predictions and thoughts on the clash between Liverpool and Real Madrid are at the center of my talkSPORT tipping column this week.

You have two great managers to be honest, going head-to-head, which makes it even more fascinating, it’s awesome! This game is going to be a real cracker.

Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp clash this weekend

Now Liverpool make more sense than City, I think for Klopp if they take the lead he has James Milner and Jordan Henderson to sit on.

He can get the players to sit still when City were, especially in this first leg, two ahead and really should have kept him at 4-2.

They didn’t and it cost them because they kept pushing forward, kept getting bodies up there and kept passing the ball high.

But Liverpool’s injuries are definitely a problem, most are back in training now, but the question is, are you risking anyone in the final?

Klopp was a genius for Liverpool, he’s not crazy, he’s not dumb, and he knows what he’s doing so he’ll definitely be smart about it.

Champions League final predictions

I think it’s going to be a very close game, Liverpool are almost the favourites, but I’m doing it much closer than I really do.

My concern for Liverpool is that Real Madrid are very rested, they’ve had three weeks after winning the title in Spain, so they haven’t had the fierce games that Liverpool had to play.

Trying to win the Premier League, you wonder how much it costs them.

I think the key here is Virgil van Dijk and the two full-backs, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.

If they can contain Madrid’s wide players and of course if van Dijk can deal with Karim Benzema, I think Liverpool win, and it’s as simple as that.

If Madrid get the upper hand and take over the game and move away to the left with Vinicius Jr who could go past Alexander-Arnold, they could be in trouble.

I’m worried about that because it’s almost as if Madrid’s name is already on the cup, it will be their 14th European trophy, which is incredible because the next best is AC Milan’s seven.

It’s truly remarkable and while I hate to think their name could be on it and I want Liverpool to win, it just might go to extra time.

Dean Saunders was talking this morning about this game having a lot of goals – I’m not sure that will be the case.

If you look at the previous rounds, it indicates objectives, but this is the final! A European final in Paris. It will come at 1-1 and extra time accordingly, something like that for sure and I see Liverpool coming in and notching it late.

Tips for the Champions League final

Benzema is such a threat, isn’t he? Someone like Toni Kroos if he plays or Luka Modric can score a goal in crucial moments. These are all the best Real Madrid players, I’d go Kroos from range or a free kick for the big odds.

From a Liverpool perspective, you can never look past Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah, can you? They are amazing and will this be Mane’s last game, with a goal in the Champions League final?

If I had to choose two it would be one from each side, I would go for Mane and Kroos as underdogs for Madrid rather than Benzema.
