Russian Emergency Situations Minister Yevgeny Zinichev died during an arctic zone protection exercise in Norilsk, Russia. He would have jumped into the water to try, in vain, to save a person from drowning.
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced on September 8 in a statement the death of Minister Yevgeny Zinichev, at the age of 55. He is said to have died while trying to save a person who fell in the water, who also died, from drowning.
“[Le ministre des Situations d’urgence] tragically died while on duty in Norilsk during an interministerial exercise to protect the arctic zone, while he was saving a person’s life, ”the statement said.
According to initial information, an RT team was present at the scene of the tragedy to cover the minister’s trip. In a message posted on TwitterRT World Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonian explained that Yevgeny Zinichev was on the edge of a cliff with a videographer who slipped and fell into the water. The minister then jumped into the water to try to rescue him, but fell on rocks.
Yevgeny Zinichev held various positions in state security agencies, before being appointed governor of Kaliningrad in 2016. He subsequently held the post of deputy director of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for two years. (FSB). He was appointed Minister of Emergency Situations on May 18, 2018.
