Roy Keane shrugged off ‘Fenian b******’ mockery from Rangers fans, received the highest praise from Sir Alex Ferguson after winning for Manchester United and featured man of the match on his debut with Old Firm with Celtic

Roy Keane and Old Firms go hand in hand.

He ruled midfield with an iron fist throughout his career, giving his opponents a torrid time with his tough tackles and quality ball game.

Drive through Keano at your own risk!

In an attempt to dismiss it, Keane claims Rangers fans would shout ‘You Fenian b******’ before the game. But these highly offensive mockery only made him play better.

He had faced Rangers playing for Manchester United, having been drawn in the same group with Gers in the Champions League in the 2003/04 season.

As expected, the Premier League side completed a double over Rangers, with the second outing seeing them send the Scottish giants 3-0 down at Old Trafford.

And Keane received some of the highest praise from Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson after the game.

“Roy Keane is fantastic – he’s the best player I’ve had here and I have some great players,” Ferguson said. “It’s his authority, his game, that’s all he does.

“Of course I’m happy with the result, and for most of the game we played good football with good penetration, especially in the first half.”

But the standout player was Keane, who was on fire that night

Just over two years later, Keane left Man United and embarked on a new challenge at Rangers’ Glasgow rivals Celtic.

Keane’s Celtic career couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start as they were knocked out of the Scottish Cup with a loss to Clyde, who were playing in the Scottish Championship equivalent, on his debut.

Celtic players had to fend off furious fans at the Hoops training ground after the defeat. But all was forgiven a month later.

Keane made his Old Firm debut in a raucous Ibrox in February 2006, which the Hoops won 1-0 – Keane featuring the man of the match.

Keane ran the show on the Rangers patch

“My first Old Firm game was at Ibrox and we won 1-0. It was brilliant. It lived up to all expectations, probably because we won,” Keane wrote in his autobiography The Second Half.

“The start of my Celtic career wasn’t great – losing to Clyde and angry fans. But then, soon after, we’re going to win at Rangers, and I think, ‘That’s what it’s about.”

“The vibe was great, fucking electric. The hate – I enjoyed it all.

“I received a yellow card for a foul on [Dado] Prso and they demanded a red card. Physically, I should feel good. I was the man of the match, and it was a small moment of satisfaction, another small victory.

“The locker room afterwards was great. Again, that’s what it’s all about.

Of course, this man was going to have a say in how the game went.

Celtic can tighten their grip on the Scottish Premiership title race with victory at Rangers on Sunday.

And if anyone on Team Hoops is willing to channel their inner-Roy Keane, a win should follow.
