Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has tested positive for Covid-19. Rohit is now in quarantine after testing positive following a rapid antigen test (RAT) carried out in England on Saturday.

In preparation for the rescheduled fifth Test match against England, Rohit with the team was playing in a four-day warm-up match against Leicestershire. Rohit Sharma’s health was in question on Day 3 of the game in which he scored 25 points in the first innings.

R Ashwin had also tested positive for Covid-19 before leaving India, which delayed his arrival. Now, another big question has arisen as to who will lead the Indian team in the test match if Rohit doesn’t recover before the game. Previously, the BCCI selectors did not name a vice-captain for the game, so a decision will have to be made quickly now.
The Indian team are currently playing a four-day tour match against Leicestershire to prepare for the game against England. The positive Rohit test could deal a blow to India’s preparations. India currently leads the Test series by 2-1. Due to Covid-19, the fifth Test match which was due to take place at Old Trafford in Manchester last year has been cancelled.
It will be the first time since 2007-08 that India will win a series in England if they win or draw in the 5th Test.
