A Kyle Rittenhouse defense attorney blasted Republican lawmakers on Saturday for trying to “take advantage” of his client’s acquittal in the shooting deaths of two men, calling it “disgusting,” Business Insider reported.

“There are a lot of people out there trying to take advantage of it, and I don’t think people should be,” attorney Mark Richards told Insider.

“They’re fundraising on this, and you’ve got all these Republican congressmen saying come work for me,” he added. “They want to talk about his fame, and I think that’s disgusting.”

Richards was responding to a since deleted tweet from Trump Jr. on Saturday announcing that a gun organization was planning to award Rittenhouse an AR-15, and urged his followers to sign an accompanying card “in support of Kyle “.

As for the Republican lawmakers he attacked, a number of them bragged about Rittenhouse’s acquittal on Friday in the fatal shots of unarmed Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber – and the injury to Gaige Grosskreutz, who had a handgun.

The confrontations came after the Rittenhouse, armed with an AR-15 style rifle, traveled from Illinois to Kenosha, Wis., Where protests erupted over the shooting last year by police from local Back resident Jacob Blake, who left him paralyzed.

Representative Madison Cawthorn (RN.C.) on Friday bragged about the teenager’s acquittal and urged others to “be armed and dangerous.”

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Arizona) asked his Twitter followers on Friday whether Rittenhouse should be received the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Both men, along with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Have indicated they will offer Rittenhouse a congressional internship position. Gosar tweeted that he was going to “arm wrestle” Gaetz to “graduate for Rittenhouse as an intern.”

Right-wing politicians, PACS, other organizations, Rittenhouse supporters and family members have used the burning issue to raise funds; the same is true for organizations on the other side of the issue.
