Johnny Depp will be among the many famous faces appearing in the upcoming “Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4,” HuffPost has confirmed.
The controversial ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor will not only wear a look from the singer’s size and gender lingerie line, but will be the first male model to have a ‘star’ moment in the brand’s history. , per Variety and TMZ, which was first to report the news.
The latest “Savage X Fenty” fashion showcase, slated for release on Amazon Prime on Wednesday, will feature other stars such as Winston Duke, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Simu Liu, Taraji P. Henson, Irina Shayk, Marsai Martin , Cara Delevingne and Rihanna herself, alongside musical performances by Burna Boy and Anitta.
The event will mark Depp’s first major public appearance since a Virginia jury earlier this year awarded him $15 million in damages in his libel lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard, who slapped him. accused of domestic violence and sexual assault. Jurors also awarded Heard, who still maintains Depp abused her, $2 million in compensatory damages in a countersuit against the actor.
The case against Heard centered on a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she described herself as a survivor of domestic violence, a statement Depp said was defamatory of him.
Rihanna’s inclusion of Depp in the new special ― her fourth fashion experience on Amazon Prime since 2019 ― has already proven to be a divisive choice for the billionaire fashion and beauty mogul.
On Twitter, a flabbergasted user wrote: “rihanna can’t be serious? with all these handsome and trouble-free men in Hollywood, and Johnny Depp is the one you like the most?
“Rihanna is…so weird for bringing Johnny Depp on her show. NO ONE was talking about this man before the trial,” says another userwho was wondering “where is his head”.
Others defended the singer, with one write that “she can have whoever she wants on her own show”.
“Rihanna goes from being a feminist icon to being trashed in the minds of many ‘feminists'” Depp fan added. “Rihanna has my respect.”
“Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4” comes months after Depp appeared virtually at MTV’s Video Music Awards in August, dressed as the ceremony’s mascot. The event was his first appearance on camera since the libel trial ended in June.
This stunt drew mixed reviews, particularly from Heard’s camp, with sister Whitney Heard calling the network “disgusting and clearly hopeless” at the time.
Depp, however, is apparently more employable than he has been in years.
As well as renewing a seven-figure, multi-year contract with fashion company Dior, he will star as King Louis XV in the upcoming period drama ‘Jeanne du Barry’. He will also return to the director’s chair with the biopic “Modigliani”, following Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani at a defining moment in his career.
As for Rihanna, her new fashion show comes as she plans a return to music, with her first single in over six years released last month. The ballad “Lift Me Up” features on the soundtrack to Marvel’s upcoming sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
His comeback will seemingly reach a crescendo with a long-talked-about new album and a headlining performance at the Super Bowl halftime show scheduled for February.
