Reviews | The Texas School Massacre: Heartache and Outrage

A school shooter tends to be socially isolated and incompetent. Deep humiliation in the face of perceived ostracism is mediated by fantasies of murderous revenge, which are characteristic of severe personality disorder rather than psychotic illness or autism. In the bright, happy eyes of the children they murder, the shooter sees everything they believe has been denied.

Based on similar cases of school shooters at Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, Parkland, and Columbine, I wouldn’t be surprised if the shooter at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde fits that profile.

All teachers in this country should go on strike until sound gun laws are enacted. Enough is enough.

Regarding “An emotional biden: ‘Why do we keep letting this happen?’” (news article, May 25):

President Biden is right to express his sympathy to the families of the children killed at Ulvalde. He is right to express his outrage on behalf of the American people who are tired of senseless gun violence. He is right to say: “We must act.

But this is weak tea. Of course, we must act. But how?

The president must tell the American people what to do to compel a recalcitrant Congress to act. Please, Mr. President, tell me and my fellow Americans what to do. Concretely. I will, and many others will too.

For the editor:

It doesn’t matter the motivations, mindset or mental state of the shooter. It is very simple. If the 18-year-old did not have the opportunity to purchase a military-grade semi-automatic weapon in this country, it is likely that the grandchildren and teachers who died on Tuesday would be alive. This shooting is on the backs of federal and state lawmakers who voted against gun safety laws.
