Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene Denounces Kwanzaa ‘False Religion’ As Black Vacation Begins

| Today Headlines | World News

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene denounced Kwanzaa as a “false religion” just as millions of blacks begin to celebrate the weeklong vacation.

Georgia’s far-right lawmaker berated National College Republicans for “pimping and BS” after the GOP group tweeted a seemingly innocuous happy holiday message.

“Stop. It’s a false religion created by a psychopath,” Greene said. “People are tired of bowing to demands and BS.”

She was apparently mocking Kwanzaa founder Professor Maulana Karenga, who was convicted of criminal assault in the 1960s in what he said was a politically motivated lawsuit spurred by his involvement in black nationalist politics.

Greene suggested college Republicans should avoid political correctness if they are to galvanize the conservative GOP base.

“You are not bringing in new voters, you are rejecting them,” she added.

College Republicans did not respond to Greene’s criticism of the tweet, who himself misspelled the party’s name as “Kwanza.”

Some Republican groups seek to highlight putative Republican values like personal responsibility, faith, and prosperity to reach out to traditionally GOP skeptical groups like blacks, Latinos, gays, and Jews.

But hard-core white Christian conservatives like Greene see such awareness as watering down their message to the GOP voter base.

Kwanzaaa, which lasts for seven days, is a holiday festival, not a religion as Greene claims.

It was created in 1966 to allow black people around the world to celebrate their common African roots.

Millions of people celebrate it alongside other holiday season like Christmas and Hanukkah.

Former President Trump tweeted a similar “Happy Kwanzaa” message during his time in the White House, but Greene did not criticize his political hero for the greetings.
