Report: Trump sues New York attorney general over trade investigation
| Local News | Usa news
Former President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against New York State Attorney General Letitia James in an attempt to prevent him from investigating his business practices, the New York Times and CNN reported on Monday.
The lawsuit, which was reportedly filed in federal court on Monday, claims James’s investigation violates Trump’s constitutional rights.
“Her mission is guided solely by political animosity and the desire to harass, intimidate and retaliate against an ordinary citizen whom she considers to be a political opponent,” the lawsuit read, according to the Times report.
James’ office did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment on the matter.
James has been leading a civilian investigation into the Trump Organization, linked to Trump’s trade relations prior to his presidency, since 2019. In May, she announced that she had also opened a separate criminal investigation into his business empire.
Trump’s trial would target the civil investigation.
