Rep. Comer slams Treasury Department for failing to investigate Hunter Biden’s foreign financial activity
Representative James Comer (R-KY) on Saturday criticized the US Treasury Department for refusing to investigate Hunter Biden and his family’s suspicious foreign financial activity.
“It is unacceptable for the Treasury Department to continue to cover up the Biden family and possibly hide information that Joe Biden benefited financially from his family’s business dealings,” Comer said in response to the government’s formal rejection of his claims. Treasury Department.
Comer, a senior member of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, noted that Hunter Biden has already been reported more than 150 times by U.S. banks regarding suspicious foreign wire transfers made to him and James Biden.
Republican lawmakers alleged that some of those transactions came from Chinese entities, totaling $165,000.
The Republican lawmaker has already twice requested that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen investigate Hunter Biden, his family members and his associates regarding the reported transactions.
When the department responded to his inquiries on Friday, it called the charges “preliminary and unverified information about possible violations of the law.”
Jonathan Davidson, the Treasury Department official who drafted the letter to Comer, also said the department would only respond to “appropriate requests from jurisdictional committees.” — a possible indication that the department won’t respond unless Democrats are on board.
Comer applauded the department, accusing the Biden administration of changing the rules to prevent a full investigation.
“We need more information about these transactions and whether Joe Biden benefited financially from his family’s relationships with foreign adversaries,” Comer said. “It’s a matter of national security whether President Biden is compromised.”
“The American people deserve answers, and Republicans will use the power of the hammer in the next Congress to get them,” he added.
The Kentucky congressman has been one of the most vocal Republican lawmakers in demanding that Hunter Biden and his family’s suspicious financial dealings be probed.
In July, Comer asked Hunter Biden’s wealth adviser, Edward Prewitt, to turn over the family’s banking records regarding the Biden family’s international dealings, Breitbart News reported.
