NEW YORK (AP) – Rapper Fetty Wap was arrested in New York on federal drug charges, an FBI spokesperson said on Friday.

The rapper, real name Willie Maxwell, was arrested Thursday at Citi Field, home of the three-day Rolling Loud hip-hop music festival, FBI spokeswoman Amy Thoreson said.

Details of the charges against Maxwell were not immediately released. He was due to be brought to justice later on Friday.

A telephone message requesting comment was left with a lawyer who represented Maxwell.

Maxwell, 30, rose to fame after his debut single “Trap Queen” reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts in May 2015.

He has had other run-ins with the law, including a 2019 arrest in Las Vegas for allegedly assaulting three employees at a hotel-casino. He was previously arrested in November 2017 and charged with impaired driving after police said he was doing a drag race on a New York City freeway.

Maxwell experienced personal tragedy in October 2020 when his younger brother, Twyshon Depew, 26, was shot and killed in their hometown of Paterson, New Jersey.

Then, in June 2021, Maxwell’s 4-year-old daughter Lauren passed away.
