Rapper Desiigner accused of masturbating on overseas flight

• Rapper Desiigner, real name Sidney Royel Selby III, has been charged with a single federal count of indecent exposure on an airplane after allegedly masturbating aboard a flight to Minneapolis from Tokyo.
• Selby, who was spotted masturbating three times aboard the April 17 Delta flight, faces up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Rapper Desiigner was charged Monday with one count of federal indecent exposure on an airplane, after authorities said he masturbated on a flight from Tokyo to Minneapolis.

The offense brought against the rapper, whose real name is Sidney Royel Selby III, is punishable by up to 90 days in prison and a $500 fine.

The charges came just days after he announced in a tweet on Thursday that he was “ashamed” of what happened on the plane, that he was admitting himself to a facility to get help and was canceling all his shows.

“Sanity,” he wrote, “is real guys.” No attorney is listed for him in the online court records.

The criminal complaint says a flight attendant first spotted Selby exposing herself about 60 to 90 minutes after the April 17 Delta flight. He covered up, but five minutes later two flight attendants spotted Selby masturbating. Again, he was told “No” and covered up, according to the complaint.

The senior flight attendant then came to Selby’s first class seat and said he was going to be arrested. But soon after, a flight attendant spotted Selby exposing herself a third time.

Selby was then moved to the back of the plane, where two fellow travelers agreed to watch him. There, he told his security guard that he was “wiretapped,” that he had “messed up,” and that he was “sorry,” according to the complaint.

Selby apologized to the crew at the end of the flight, then was arrested.

When questioned by the FBI, Selby said he “didn’t have much” in Japan and found one of the flight attendants attractive, so he exposed himself.

Selby said in his tweet that he was admitted to a hospital while being checked and given medication. The complaint, however, said he told the FBI he had not taken the drug before exposing himself. When asked if he was under the influence, Selby said “no” and the FBI agent who interviewed him said he didn’t seem impaired.

In 2016, Selby was arrested after another driver claimed he waved a handgun while exiting a tunnel connecting Manhattan and New Jersey. But the firearm charge was dropped.
