Ralf Rangnick received a boost ahead of Manchester United’s game against Newcastle as stars recover from COVID-19

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick provided an update on his squad as they prepare to resume action after their COVID-19 outbreak.
The games against Brentford and Brighton have been called off due to eight first-team players and three goalkeepers contracting the virus.
Fortunately, they have all recovered and with the exception of Paul Pogba, the former RB Leipzig boss has a full squad of players to choose from.
The Red Devils are in action against Newcastle United on Monday 27 December and are looking to maintain their 100% Premier League record since ex-RB Leipzig boss took the lead.
“Yes, as you know we had last week, the last training session Thursday, from there today we had eight few players, three goalies and then we closed the training ground for four days to break the chain and today was the third day of training this week, ”he told reporters.
“We trained on Tuesday, yesterday and today and we have 25 outfielders so apart from Paul Pogba he’s the only one missing, everyone is on board. The development of the past week is extremely positive.
“We will train tomorrow and there will be a day off for the players on Christmas Day, then we will have the last training session here on Sunday and we will fly to Newcastle on Sunday night.”
Given that clubs are now in the most intense part of the season with games every two or three days, Rangnick will need his full squad and look forward to the holiday schedule, but suggested that a change to the current schedule was needed.
“You know better than I what a great tradition it is to play on Boxing Day, January 27, or even January 30 or 2,” he added.
“I think we have to stick to this great tradition and respect it. I am looking forward to this for the first time in my coaching career, but there could be two more issues and they have been discussed in the past.
“England are the only top league that play two cup competitions, in France they took the second out a year or two ago, we are the only country that play two cup competitions.
“This is something we could talk about and discuss, I know the reason why the League Cup is always reserved for the third and fourth division teams in order to improve the financial situation of these clubs.
“But a tight schedule, too many games, it’s something to talk about and discuss.
“The other problem has changed is you had to have a replay, that has been changed now, I think it’s a good idea. In other countries you play extra time and penalties, and n ‘never have reruns, these are topics you could talk about. “
