Wedding planners and everyone involved in the industry are optimistic and expect large-scale activity this time as there are no restrictions like in the past due to the pandemic.

It is estimated that about 1.5 lakh weddings will be performed across Rajasthan in November, the highest for more than two years after the coronavirus outbreak.

Wedding planners and everyone involved in the industry are optimistic and expect large-scale activity this time as there are no restrictions like in the past due to the pandemic.

“People are now ready to perform large-scale weddings as before. According to an estimate, nearly 1.5 weddings will take place across Rajasthan in the month of November. The season starts on November 4th, the auspicious occasion of Dev Uthni Gyaras,” said Ravi Jindal, President of the Rajasthan Tent Merchants Association.

“This is the highest number of weddings in two years. Most wedding halls and wedding venues are booked for the next five months. Apart from wedding halls, hotels, resorts and farms have been reserved for wedding receptions,” he said.

Jindal said the number of marriages last November was around 40,000 to 50,000.

“For the past couple of years, there were restrictions on the number of guests attending a reception, therefore wedding ceremonies were limited,” he said.

Jai Bansal, owner of Nathu Lal Fatehpuria clothing boutique in Badi Chaupar, said shopping for weddings had started in Navratras and the market was back on track. “The sale of lehenga, sherwani, safas and other wedding attire is currently at its peak,” he said.

Another trader, Sohan Sharma of Rangoli Sarees, said their sale was almost 50% higher than the previous year.

Jaipur-based Manish Samariya, who will marry on November 4, said his family preferred not to fix their marriage amid the Covid pandemic and were waiting for things to normalize.

“My family and I wanted to have a full-fledged reception so that all of our guests and relatives could attend. This year there are no restrictions and it’s the perfect time for a wedding ceremony,” a- he declared.

There are over 13,000 wedding gardens in the state with 950 of them in Jaipur. Besides gardens, many weddings are planned at hotels and resorts. There are 10 main dates for the wedding in the month of November and December this year.

Jindal said nearly 6 lakh people are directly and indirectly engaged in the industry, from tent merchants to catering service providers, florists, group parties, event planners and choreographers.

“It was a difficult time in 2020 and 2021 as a limited number of wedding receptions took place. This time bookings are higher,” said Mukesh Cheepa, owner of a garden used for weddings.

People also prefer luxury dharmshalas in destinations like Khatu town, where the famous temple of Khatu Shyamji is located.

While the daily expense of a garden wedding is Rs 50,000 to Rs 10-12 lakh depending on location and size, there are dharmshalas with 25-40 rooms with good facilities which are available for around 2 lakh per day.

Rajasthan is also famous for destination weddings in places like Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Sawaimadhopur and Kumbhalgarh where businessmen and celebrities have married in the past.

“Delicious Rajasthani cuisine, attractive attire, unparalleled hospitality and heritage sites are the key factors for which Rajasthan is famous for destination weddings,” said Amit Kothari, an expert in the hospitality industry.

“Many people from places like Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Goa are showing great interest in hosting wedding receptions in Rajasthan,” he said.
