At a June 29 press conference in Ashgabat, Vladimir Putin commented on an earlier exchange between G7 leaders about showing off their “pecs” to “show” that they are “stronger” than the Russian president.
Vladimir Putin joked on June 29 about the G7 leaders who had fun earlier in the day mocking the virile image attributed to the Russian president, saying that seeing them shirtless would be a “disgusting spectacle”.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had indeed asked at the opening of the G7 summit in Germany, in the form of a joke, if the big world leaders should keep their jackets or remove them to show their “pectorals”.
I don’t know if they wanted to strip to the waist or even lower
“We have to show that we are stronger than Putin”, he launched, while Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau added: “We are going to be entitled to the demonstration of bare-chested riding”, referring to a famous photo of Vladimir Putin on horseback shirtless taken in 2009.

“I don’t know if they wanted to undress to the waist or even lower, but anyway, it would have been a disgusting sight,” quipped Vladimir Putin, during a press conference in Ashgabat, the Turkmen capital. The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, had already reacted earlier to the Russian press agency Ria Novosti: “Good old Freud would have loved to have had such a subject for his research during his lifetime”, directly targeting the head of the British government.
The Russian Head of State spoke to the press on June 29, responding in particular to questions on NATO’s expansion in Northern Europe and on the anti-Russian declarations of the members of the Alliance.
