Probation suspect shoots and kills Milwaukee police officer
A hit-and-run probation suspect allegedly fatally shot and killed police officer Peter Jerving on Tuesday morning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
NBC News reported that Jerving was 37 and was shot following a foot chase by 19-year-old Terrell Thompson.
Thompson was suspected of a robbery and “fled on foot after arriving at the scene of the robbery at approximately 1:15 a.m. on the south side of town.” Officer Jerving managed to grab Thompson and two struggled, then Jerving was shot.
Jerving was taken to hospital, where he died.
Thompson (pictured below) was also shot and died at the scene.
FOX6 noted that Thompson was just placed on probation on Monday, February 6, 2023.
Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman commented on Jerving’s death: “Milwaukee, our hearts are heavy. The hearts of the Milwaukee Police Department are heavy. My heart is heavy. One of our best who put on that uniform, put on that badge, went to work last night and made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our community. Milwaukee, we need your prayers. We need your support.”
Jerving had been with the Milwaukee Police Department for four years.
Last year, Constable Jerving received an MPDLifesaving Award for heroically providing life-saving treatment to a gunshot victim “under extremely dangerous conditions”.
