Prince Andrew asks US judge to dismiss prosecution alleging sexual abuse | Prince Andrew

| Local News | World News

Prince Andrew has asked a US judge to dismiss Virginia Giuffre’s civil lawsuit accusing her of sexually assaulting her when she was 17.

In a case filed with Manhattan U.S. District Court on Friday, the Duke of York said the case should be dismissed because Giuffre had not made a request for relief.

He also said that if the dismissal was not granted, Giuffre would have to provide a “more definitive statement” of his allegations.

Giuffre’s lawyers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Giuffre, 38, who is one of Jeffrey Epstein’s most high-profile accusers, sued Andrew for unspecified damages in August.

She accused him of forcing her to have sex when she was underage at the London home of Ghislaine Maxwell, a longtime partner of Epstein, the late financier and registered sex offender, more than two decades.

Giuffre also accused Andrew of abusing her at Epstein’s Manhattan mansion and on one of Epstein’s private islands in the US Virgin Islands.

Andrew, 61, a former friend of Epstein’s, has not been charged with any crimes and has “categorically” denied Giuffre’s claims.

The prince, who is also Queen Elizabeth’s second son, stepped down from many royal duties and lost support from charities and organizations after a disastrous BBC interview in November 2019 in which he did not appear sympathetic to Epstein’s victims.

Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell and Prince Andrew

In the early 90, Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of British media mogul Robert Maxwell, met an investment and financial banker Jeffrey Epstein. Their relationship was initially romantic, but it has evolved into something more akin to Maxwell being a confidant and personal assistant.

Prince Andrew was reportedly introduced to Epstein through their mutual friend Maxwell in 1999, and Epstein reportedly visited the QueenAberdeenshire’s private retreat.

Some have suggested that the introduction was made earlier. A 2011 letter to The Times of London from the prince’s private secretary at the time, Alastair Watson, suggests Andrew and Epstein had known each other since the early ’90s.

Andrew, Maxwell and Epstein are seen together at Donald trumpfrom the Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. Later that year, Epstein and Maxwell attend a joint birthday party at Windsor Castle hosted by the Queen.

Andrew and Epstein are vacationing together and are pictured on a yacht in Phuket, Thailand, surrounded by topless women. The Times of London reported that the prince’s vacation was paid for by Epstein.

In the same year, Virginie giuffre, then 17, claims to have had sex with Andrew at Maxwell’s home in Belgravia, London. Giuffre, whose last name was Roberts at the time of the alleged incidents, says she slept with Andrew twice more, at Epstein’s New York home and at an “orgy” on his private island in the United States. Caribbean.

Epstein is jailed for 18 months by a Florida state court after pleading guilty to prostituting minors.

Shortly after his release, Epstein receives a visit from Andrew in New York. The couple are pictured together in Central Park. Images appear years later, believed to have been shot on December 6, which appear to show Andrew inside Epstein’s Manhattan mansion greeting a woman behind a door.

Andrew is stepping down as UK trade envoy following an outcry over the Central Park photos.

Allegations that Andrew had sex with Giuffre appear in court documents in Florida linked to Epstein. Newspapers say she was forced to have sex with Andrew when she was 17, which is below the age of consent under Florida law. Buckingham Palace denies the allegations. Claims against Andrew are then struck from U.S. civil court records following a ruling by a federal judge.

Andrew is accused of sexual misconduct by a second alleged victim of Epstein, Johanna Sjöberg. She claims he touched her chest in the billionaire’s Manhattan apartment in 2001. Buckingham Palace says the allegations are “categorically false”.

Epstein is found dead in his jail cell after being re-arrested and charged with sex trafficking. A medical examiner said the death was suicide.

A pilot of Epstein’s private jet later in the month claims Andrew was a passenger on previous flights with the financier and Giuffre.

Andrew takes part in a disastrous BBC TV interview in which he claims he could not have had sex with Giuffre because he was at home after a visit to Pizza Express in Woking, and his description of his dancing with her before could not be true as he was unable to sweat and had “no memory of ever having met this lady”. After several days of negative reaction, Andrew announces that he will be stepping down from his public service “for the foreseeable future”.

American attorney Geoffroy Berman made a public statement suggesting there was “no cooperation” with Andrew’s investigation.

After Berman again claimed that the prince had “completely closed the door” to his cooperation with the US investigation in March, Andrew’s lawyers insist that he has repeatedly offered to cooperate and accuse US prosecutors of misleading the public and violating confidentiality.

Maxwell, who has rarely been seen in public in recent years, is arrested by the FBI on charges related to Epstein. Unsealed testimony from a 2015 civil case reveals a slew of claims about her role in Epstein’s sex trafficking ring, including claims she trained underage girls as sex slaves. She faces up to 80 years in prison if found guilty in a trial which is now due to open in November 2021.

U.S. officials confirm Prince Andrew has received court documents relating to Giuffre’s sexual assault trial, seeking damages. His lawyers had said earlier that the Duke had officially received the papers, but his legal team had contested the request. Two weeks later, a New York court allowed the king’s lawyers to view the confidential settlement agreement between Giuffre and Epstein.

London Metropolitan Police said they were taking no further action after examining allegations Prince Andrew assaulted Giuffre. In August, Met Commissioner Cressida Dick said “no one is above the law” and that she “asked my team to review the material.”

Thank you for your opinion.

The documents filed by Andrew included a 2009 settlement agreement between Giuffre and Epstein, which was filed under seal.

At a hearing last month, Prince Andrew Brettler’s attorney told US District Judge Lewis Kaplan, who oversees the Giuffre case, that he believed the settlement agreement “relieves our client of liability. “.

David Boies, one of Giuffre’s lawyers, said he considered the deal “unrelated” to Giuffre’s case.

The next hearing is scheduled for November 3.

Giuffre was separately sued for $ 20 million on Thursday for allegedly defaming an artist on Twitter who said she brought women to Epstein but denied being a recruiter.

The artist, Rina Oh Amen, sued for tweets, including that she “procured and participated in child abuse.” Amen called the tweets “maliciously bogus” and said Epstein had abused her as well.

Epstein committed suicide at age 66 in a Manhattan prison in August 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.

Maxwell, 59, has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and other counts for allegedly helping recruit and prepare underage girls for Epstein to abuse Epstein between 1994 and 2004. His trial begins on the 29th. November.
