Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said more than 50 people could be dead after a tornado hit a factory.
A worker posted poignant videos on Facebook of her request for help while trapped inside the factory.
Beshear said the total number of deaths could reach 100.
A worker at a Kentucky candle factory struck by a tornado posted a heartbreaking video to Facebook as he was trapped inside the building.
In the 10-minute video, filmed in almost total darkness, Kyanna Lou asks for help and says that she and other colleagues were “stuck” behind a wall after the tornado hit the factory. Mayfield’s consumer products and caused the roof to collapse.
“I’m really scared, I try to be cool, but I’m really scared,” Lou says in the video.
“I don’t know who’s looking. We’ve been hit by a hurricane. I’m at work in Mayfield and we’re trapped.”
“Please help us. We are at the Mayfield Candle Factory. Please, please,” she said.
Several people can be heard crying and moaning in the background.
“They told us not to move because if we move things will fall more,” Lou says in the video, adding that her legs were numb because she couldn’t move them.
At approximately 7:17 a.m., tag the video to show another worker appearing to be buried under the debris.
In another video posted two hours later, a tearful Lou can be seen telling the camera she had been rescued.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said he feared more than 50 workers at the Mayfield Consumer Products candle factory.
“I’m afraid there are more than 50 dead,” he told a press conference on Friday evening. “Confirmation from each individual is coming. It will be closer to 70 and 100. It’s devastating.
He confirmed that more than 100 people were in the building when the tornado hit.
Beshear said several tornadoes hit Kentucky and caused damage to more than 100 counties in Kentucky.
He said it was “the most serious tornado event in Kentucky history.”
