Gujarat Titans (GT) will be looking to consolidate their top spot in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) points table as they take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai at the start of the match. Sunday May 15.

GT have made a strong start to their first IPL season and are the first team to seal a playoff spot with 18 points in just 12 games. Meanwhile, CSK are second from bottom with just eight points from 12 games.

When the two teams met earlier this season, it was the GT rookies who emerged victorious thanks to a David Miller-inspired display. Ruturaj Gaikwad (73 from 48 balls) and Ambati Rayudu (46) helped CSK to a decent 169/5 after being invited to bat.

Gujarat got off to a rough start as they were down to 48/4 in just 8 overs. However, Miller (94 not out from 51 balls) and Rashid Khan (40 from 21 balls), who captained the team in place of the injured Hardik Pandya, both played blinders to seal the win despite a lethal spell from Dwayne Bravo (3/23).

Rashid Khan (4/24) went on to record his best IPL numbers ever and Sai Kishore (2/7) also impressed on his IPL debut as they rounded up LSG for just 82 runs in 14 overs for become the first team to seal a playoff berth.

Mukesh Choudhary (3/23) continued to impress in his first IPL season but the tally was too low to defend as MI rode to victory to crush CSK’s faint hopes of finishing in the top four.

It will be a matter of pride now for the defending champions who have just four wins this season. Meanwhile, Gujarat will be eager to finish in the top two places to have two bites to advance to the playoff final.

CSK v GT Team News:

CSK Team News: There have been rumors of a falling out between former captain Ravindra Jadeja and the CSK management, fueled by the fact that Jadeja and CSK unfollowed each other on social media. Jadeja is set to miss the rest of the season after suffering a rib injury.

GT Team News: Gujarat have no injury concerns but could be eager to rest a few key players and give the squad’s youngsters a chance to impress.

Pitch ratio CSK vs GT: The last game at Wankhede Stadium saw CSK knocked out for just 97 runs against MI and it’s hard to say if that counts as an advantage as they’ve only played here recently. However, Wankhede have mostly delivered high scoring games and three of the last five games have been won by the chasing team.

Where to watch live: The match begins at 3:30 p.m. IST on Sunday, May 15, with the draw scheduled for 3:00 p.m. IST. The match will be broadcast live on the Star Sports Network. Viewers can also tune in to the action via Disney+ Hotstar.
