PFL announce first-ever UK shows as they head to London and Cardiff this summer

The League of Professional Fighters [PFL] is coming to the UK for the first time this summer with two shows scheduled in London and Cardiff.

On August 13, the MMA promotion will be at Cardiff’s Motor Point Arena for their second round of play-offs. A week later, the Copper Box Arena in London will host its third round of the playoffs on August 20.

The PFL stars recently gathered in London to announce the happy news

This news comes just months after PFL announced an exclusive UK broadcasting deal with Channel 4, which will air all PFL content throughout the 2022 season.

The MMA promotion features a stacked roster of talent that includes Claressa Shields, Kayla Harrison, Rory MacDonald and Anthony Pettis. As well as British fighters such as Brendan Loughnane and Stevie Ray.

PFL has also partnered with Live Nation, the world’s largest music and entertainment promoter, to help it continue its global expansion.

“We are delighted to announce our international partnership with Live Nation as the world’s leading music and entertainment promoter enters the world’s fastest growing sport,” said PFL CEO Peter Murray, in a press release.

“MMA fans in the UK will see star PFL fighters battle it out for a shot at the PFL World Championship and the $6 million dollar prize.”

The PFL format is different from any other promotion as its fighters compete in regular season, playoffs, and championship bouts.

During the regular season, the fighters will face off twice to earn points.

The bouts are three round bouts and the winners are awarded three points with bonus points available for those who win by knockout or submission.

If a fighter finishes their fight in the first round, they receive three bonus points. A finish in the second round will earn the athlete two bonus points, while a late stoppage victory in the third round will earn the fighter an additional point.

At the end of the regular season, the four fighters with the most points will advance to the semi-finals.

The fighter who has accumulated the most points in his first two fights is ranked number one and will face the fourth ranked fighter who advanced with the fewest points.

The second and third seeded fighters will also square off and the winner of those two fights will go to the finals, which is a five round PFL Championship bout.

Whoever emerges victorious from this fight will be the PFL Champion for 2022 and walk away with $1 million in prize money.

This year’s season is already well underway with the first round of fights across six weight classes completed ahead of the next PFL show on June 17.
