Petr Cech showed he is still Chelsea through and through as he celebrated Enzo Fernandez’s late goal in the Sky Sports studio.
The former goalkeeper was a guest on Monday Night Football as he joined David Jones and Jamie Carragher for the Blues’ clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
As Palace took the lead thanks to Jefferson Lerma’s incredible goal, two goals from Conor Gallagher put Chelsea 2-1 up, before Fernandez struck late to complete a well-deserved victory for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Having spent 11 years as a Chelsea player and a further three as a technical and performance advisor, there is no doubt that Cech is an avid Blues fan and showed it by celebrating the goal.
Seeing Fernandez’s goal hit the net, Cech punched the air emphatically before raising both arms in the air and greeting Carragher while looking delighted.
The win puts Chelsea in the top half of the Premier League table, but Cech’s appearance on Sky Sports was a big win for the broadcaster due to the praise he garnered.
While experts regularly analyze attacking play, defenders and tactical details, Cech shed light on the art of goalkeeping, including Dorde Petrovic and his positioning for Lerma’s first-half stunner.
Fans loved the preview on social media, with one saying: “It was brilliant. I watch a lot of football but I admit I know everything there is to know about goalkeepers of goal, other than ‘oh, he should have saved that’. Given the level of information we have. for other positions, it would be great to have more on TV!
Another fan wrote: “Refreshing to have a keeper on the show, and the best one at that!”
A third fan wrote: “Tonight highlighted that there is a real gap in goalkeeping analysis.”
Meanwhile, a fourth fan said: “Very good, and the kind of analysis you rarely see on goalkeepers, little things like that make a huge difference.”
