Pele’s coffin has now been placed in the Vila Belmiro, home of Santos, which is the club where he has spent the vast majority of his career.

He will rest in state for 24 hours before being buried on Tuesday at the Ecumenical Necropolis Memorial.

Fans could also be seen with fireworks and flares, as the hearse carrying his coffin was surrounded by those who loved him.

In honor of Pelé, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced his intention to call on all countries in the world to name a stadium after him.

Speaking to reporters in Brazil, he was quoted by the Press Association: “We are going to ask every country in the world to name one of their football stadiums with the name of Pelé.”

The likes of Neymar and Ronaldo have paid their own tributes to the former striker, with the footballing world now in mourning.
