The parents of the 15-year-old accused of committing a fatal Michigan high school shooting on Tuesday could also be charged with their son’s alleged crimes.
Oakland County District Attorney Karen McDonald on Wednesday indicted Ethan Crumbley with murder and terrorism over a shooting that killed four other students and injured others at Oxford High School in Oxford Township.
Bouchard said the alleged shooter used a 9mm Sig Sauer pistol his father had purchased the week before.
This could lead to the suspect’s parents also being charged.
“Owning a gun means securing it properly, locking it, and keeping ammunition separate,” McDonald said.
Authorities did not offer a motive for the shooting, but McDonald told reporters that a “mountain of digital evidence” collected by police suggested the shooting was premeditated and “not just an impulsive act.
Before the shooting, the suspect’s parents were called to school on Tuesday “for worrying classroom behavior”, but the teenager remained in school. The shooting took place hours later, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard told reporters.
Bouchard did not provide details of what troubled school officials, but said “tthere is nothing he could have faced that would justify senseless and absolutely brutal violence against other children. “
You can see McDonald’s discussing the charges against the suspect in the press conference below.
