More than 4.43 crore of tax returns (ITR) for fiscal year 2020-21 have been filed, including more than 11.68 lakh returns filed on December 25, the IT department said on Sunday. This includes over 2.41 ITR-1 crore and 1.09 ITR-4 crore deposited for fiscal year 2020-21 (valuation year 2021-22) through December 25, 2021.

“A total of 443 17 697 #ITRs were deposited until 12/25.2021, of which 1168,027 #ITRs were deposited the same day,” the department tweeted. The ministry reminded taxpayers to file their returns for the 2020-21 fiscal year by texting and emailing.

ITR Form 1 (Sahaj) and ITR Form 4 (Sugam) are simpler forms that are aimed at a large number of small and medium taxpayers. Sahaj can be deposited by a person with income of up to Rs 50 lakh and who receives income from salary, real estate / other sources (interest, etc.). ITR-4 can be filed by individuals, HUFs and companies with total income not exceeding Rs 50 lakh and whose income is from business and profession.

The extended deadline for filing RTIs by individuals ends on December 31. The original deadline was July 31, 2021. For fiscal year 2019-2020, RTI 5.95 crore was filed until the extended deadline of January 10, 2021.
