Orlando, Florida: Shooting kills 3, including Spectrum News 13 employee and child

An Orlando television reporter was among those killed in a shooting in Florida that killed three on Wednesday while covering one of the shootings, police said.

Mina told a press conference that the employees work for Spectrum News 13.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said earlier on Twitter that a person was in custody.

Keith Melvin Moses, 19, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with a shooting Wednesday morning, Mina said. Moïse is expected to be charged in four other shootings later in the day, including the murder of Spectrum News reporter 13, Mina added.

The sheriff said Moses had a long criminal history, including firearms charges, aggravated assault, aggravated assault and assault with a deadly weapon.

Mina said deputies responded to the 6100 block of Hialeah Street around 11 a.m. Wednesday, where they located a woman in her 20s who was shot and died from her injuries.

Detectives responded and collected evidence, he said.

Mina said police do not know why the suspect allegedly targeted the two journalists and the mother and daughter who were shot.

“At 4:05 a.m. we received 911 calls about another shooting at this location and a shooting nearby,” Mina said.

Mina said the two journalists – a photographer and a reporter – were at the scene covering the homicide that morning and were shot in or around their vehicle.

“This vehicle was in almost the exact same location as the vehicle in this morning’s homicide, so it’s not clear exactly why they were targeted. And you certainly know that we’re going to look into that, and we’ll let you know,” Mina said.

The sheriff said “the vehicle did not look like a typical press vehicle with lots of markings on it.”

Shortly after this shooting, police attended the scene of a third shooting and found a woman in Harrington Street and her 9-year-old daughter had also been shot inside a house. The 9-year-old died, the sheriff said.

Mina said it was unclear why the suspect entered that house.

“It is with deep sadness that @RTDNA learns of the passing of a journalist from @MyNews13 in Orlando,” said Radio Television Digital News Association CEO Dan Shelley. tweeted. “He was one of two station reporters shot and killed covering an earlier crime in a residential area. Sending thoughts of peace and comfort to their families, friends and other victims.
