EXCLUSIVE – Oregon teachers at Errol Hassell Elementary School sent school administrators an email claiming that eye rolling directed at a principal, among other alleged actions they observed, is an example of a “harmful practice rooted in white supremacy” occurring in the workplace.

Beaverton School District educators said in an email May 27 that they had become aware of a “rumor” that Principal Cynthia Lam Moffett was on the chopping block.

“We believe that much of the resistance to Principal Moffett’s work…is the result of bias and targeted aggression. As BIPOC educators, we have observed, experienced and witnessed similar micro and macro aggression “, says the email. BIPOC stands for Black, Indigenous and People of Color.

The teachers included a long list of “micro and macro aggressions”. Many of these related to staff responses to the director. It read: ‘Staff rolled their eyes during…meetings while Principal Moffett spoke’

He continued: ‘Staff raised their voices and interrupted Principal Moffet during…meetings, and spoke in a disrespectful and aggressive manner.’

The list also mentioned “aggressive” emails and “behaviours” on the school radio “towards BIPOC staff”, and said they were “ignored and bothered”.

The teachers said “racial slurs were directed at Principal Moffett by a staff member” and that “white staff referred to a group of BIPOC employees as a ‘gang'”.

  • “Some white staff undermine the chain of command and review BIPOC leadership and communicate directly to Patrick on issues that can be addressed and are being addressed internally”
  • “Principal Moffett is held accountable for…resolving situations of racism that she experiences”
  • “Staff members protest book club focused on dismantling…racial oppression”
  • “BIPOC feels uncomfortable in our building to the point that some users experience extreme anxiety because we don’t feel safe…on our site.”
  • “Our emotion and physical well-being has been affected not only by these actions, but also by the lack of response and support from district leaders.”
  • “BIPOC staff are called divisive for raising these issues and asking for help”

After listing all of their complaints, the teachers questioned why they were being called ‘divisional’ as they tried to dismantle these ‘harmful practices rooted in white supremacy’.

“The potential of losing an intentionally culturally sensitive leader sends a chilling message to us as BIPOC staff [at] Erroll Hassel and across the district, that BIPOC educators and leaders who prioritize fair practices will be tokenized, silenced and expelled. This situation creates confusion and fear among us and leads us to wonder why we are not heard and instead labeled as divisive when trying to dismantle harmful practices rooted in white supremacy,” the email reads. .

The educators said, “We feel that the actions we have witnessed and experienced this year have harmed us greatly.

The teachers then demanded confirmation that the principal was not going to be fired, an investigation into the “biased and racial attacks”, as well as to prevent staff members from “undermining[ing] authority of Principal Moffett and bypassing the chain of command by having direct access to the executive overseeing her.”

Fox News Digital reached out to school administrators, signatories, and the superintendent for comment, but did not receive a response.
