Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua rematch reportedly re-scheduled in July as fight could take place in Saudi Arabia ten months after first fight

The Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua rematch is now rumored to have a new scheduled date and could take place ten months after they first met.

July 23 is claimed to be the latest target for the fight, which has been planned for several months but has faced multiple disruptions.

Usyk left Ukraine and will face Joshua again

AJ lost his WBA, IBF and WBO world titles to Usyk on September 25.

A few days later, in early October, he activated his contract rematch clause to force a second fight with the Ukrainian.

Talks began for the rematch, but were then cut short in January by the proposed arrangement for Usyk to fight Tyson Fury instead.

Negotiations took place with representatives in Saudi Arabia, who sought to pay Dillian Whyte, agent for AJ and Fury, to step down and allow the two champions to meet next in an uncontested showdown.

In the end, it all fell through and Fury is now set to face Whyte on April 23, live on talkSPORT.

Usyk joined the territorial defense of kyiv when Russia invaded

As a result, Team Joshua’s attention turned to Usyk.

However, when Russia invaded Ukraine in February, he returned to his home country and joined Kyiv’s Territorial Defense Forces.

It was confusion for several weeks as to whether the champion would leave the country again to defend his titles, or whether AJ would take an interim fight in the meantime.

Then, at the end of March, Usyk confirmed that he had left Ukraine to train for Joshua’s rematch.

A target date of June 25 was originally proposed, but Dan Rafael reports that shouldn’t happen anymore and the fight is instead scheduled for July 23 as things stand – potentially in Saudi Arabia.

That would be almost ten months after the first fight.
