Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua were mobbed by boxing fans in Saudi Arabia while taking part in a promotional shoot on Wednesday.

The heavyweights are currently absent in the Middle East after attending the first press conference for their August 20 rematch, which will take place in Jeddah.

A second face-to-face took place in a historic setting

Usyk and Joshua shared a long confrontation at the presser and now have to come face to face.

The pair stood together in a ring set up in a public space in the city and stared intently at each other once again.

When this confrontation was concluded, they parted ways for more promotional filming.

The two boxers also spent time with the fans who came to see them.

Usyk danced through the crowd, while AJ mobbed and waved to his supporters.

Joshua is particularly popular in the region after boxing in Saudi Arabia for his win over Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019.

Usyk’s rematch is expected to break all records for a deal on a boxing site, but AJ may still earn less than the Ruiz fight.

As the first fight between them in 2019 was a voluntary defense, Ruiz Jr didn’t have a strong hand in the negotiations.

He signed a deal that included a rematch clause and saw him earn significantly less than AJ, even in the second fight.

As a result, the majority of the $60m (£48.7m) Saudi deal purse money at the time went directly to Joshua.

This time with Usyk, things are different. Because he was a mandatory challenger, the Ukrainian had more clout.

He too agreed to a rematch clause, but only on the condition that the second fight be a 50/50 split of the financial purse.

According to the Star, the Saudi pact this time is in the region of $80m (£65m) for the August 20 fight – breaking the record set by Ruiz Jr.’s fight.

The deal has also come under fire amid sports washing allegations in Saudi Arabia.

Amnesty International said it was time for participants to use their platforms to spark debate on human rights issues in the country.

“As we said with the LIV series golfers and with the sale of Newcastle United, we would like to see high profile sports figures speak out on human rights to break the evil spell of the Saudi sportswash. “said Peter Frankel, Economic Affairs. Director of Amnesty International UK.

“We urge Anthony Joshua to use his platform to show solidarity with those who have been persecuted under Mohammad bin Salman’s sweeping crackdown.”
