Off-duty detective shoots armed robber in NYC: NYPD

An off-duty detective fired his gun at an armed robber on a street in East Harlem Monday morning, officers said.
The 38-year-old officer was at Park Avenue and East 122nd Street around 11:30 a.m. when he saw two men rob a 29-year-old man at gunpoint, police said.
“He was on his way to work and encountered what appeared to be a robbery in progress and he responded,” a police spokesman said. “A round has been unloaded.”

The robbers, who snatched the victim’s watch and money, fled in a Ford van, police sources said. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
It was unclear if any of the robbers had been hit by gunfire, cops said. The police scrutinized the hospitals. The officer was taken to hospital for treatment for tinnitus.
