NYPD rescues dog that broke off leash and fell into East River

LOWER MANHATTAN (WABC) — NYPD Emergency Services Unit officers rushed to save the life of a dog that strayed from its owner and jumped into the East River Saturday morning.

“Bebe” broke off her leash at South Street Seaport and dived off Pier 17.

He swam more than 200 meters in the freezing river.

Officers put on their water rescue gear and swam to the pup. They returned it safe and sound to its owner who was waiting for it impatiently.
