Northern California rain and snow forecast for Saturday

Northern California Weather Impact Day: Saturday Rain and Snow Timeline
The KCRA 3 Weather Team is calling Saturday an impact day due to steady, moderate precipitation across Northern California. On Saturday, there will also be a few thunderstorms in places. Steady rain is expected early Saturday and throughout the morning in the Valley, which could impact outdoor events. By midday and into the afternoon, rain in the valley will change to showers or possibly a thunderstorm. This means the Causeway Classic at midday could see a few showers. The Foothills can expect rain all day into the early evening. Rain totals still look like a half-inch of rain in the valley, with the foothills receiving about an inch of precipitation. The Sierra will see rain change to some snow in the afternoon through Saturday evening at the pass. Travelers must be prepared for chain controls. Snow accumulation around 7,000 feet could reach 3 to 5 inches with 6 inches or more above pass level. Looking ahead, Sunday looks dry with highs in the 60s and slightly breezy with winds 10 to 20 mph. Next week also looks dry, ensuring good travel conditions for Thanksgiving during the holiday.
