Gable Steveson is WWE’s most beloved prospect, and he received extremely rare advice from Brock Lesnar during a “once in a lifetime” conversation with the wrestling legend.
The Olympic gold medalist signed with WWE just a few months ago and has already been drafted for the RAW brand.
Like Lesnar, he is an NCAA Division 1 heavyweight wrestling champion and they are also both from the same college – Minnesota.
Speaking to Corey Graves on the After The Bell podcast, Steveson, 21, revealed that the Beast Incarnate had sat him down and offered him life advice.
“Brock a while ago was getting me ready for the long trip he knew I was going to have,” Steveson said.
“Before I even won the national title, before I did what I’m doing now, before Olympic gold, Brock came in freshman to college and told me about winning and having friends and have the right people in the circle around you.
“To have guys like that that you really don’t see who are great players and great players in the world, for him to come and sit me down and give me most of his life and how he got so successful and try to put it in me.
“It’s like a once-in-a-lifetime thing that you have to listen to, not something you fear. You have to take these words and run with them.
“I took everything he said and ran with it and did my best and I’m here now so it looks pretty good I guess.”
Steveson joined WWE for the company’s very first NIL contract. A “NIL deal” means that Steveson will be paid by WWE while he completes his studies.
It wasn’t until this year that student-athletes – like Steveson – were allowed to start profiting from the use of their name, image or likeness while still in school.
Still, the fact that he was drafted on RAW means we can expect to see him come a bit further and the Olympic hero is aiming high.
“I would love to mix it up with Roman [Reigns]”Steveson said.” I really love Roman right now and what he’s doing, he’s perfect and he looks and speaks, everything about him is perfect. I would love to mix it up with him and obviously [Brock] Lesnar.
“You must have two [wrestlers] who won the NCAA championships in our own town afterwards. I would love to come face to face with Brock Lesnar, I would love to come face to face with Roman Reigns. These guys are doing a great job.
“I’m on Monday Night RAW so right now I’d like to deal with Big E just because he’s the champion.
“I’m looking for a title, I’ve always been that title seeker. Gold medal, NCAA championship, something else.
“Stuff I’ve done and need that WWE belt, whether it’s Monday night or Friday night. I would love to be that person that people watch and like I said wherever Gable is this show ends up being perfect.
