New Jersey twins born a year apart in unusual twist for New Year’s baby

With the new year fast approaching, Eve and Billy, of Merchantville, said giving birth to their boys in early 2024 had always been the plan. But having a pair of twins in different years?

They couldn’t have seen this coming.

“We thought it might be a possibility,” said Billy, the twins’ father. “But as the last day of 2023 began to end, I knew it was happening.”

Eve and Billy, who asked that their last names be withheld, are the parents of Ezra and Ezekial — twins born in different years at Virtua Voorhees Hospital in Camden County.

Ezra was born on December 31, 2023 at 11:48 p.m. and weighs 6 pounds and is 18 inches long.

His brother, Ezekial, was born on January 1, 2024 at 12:28 a.m., weighing 4 pounds and 17 inches long.

“Our only hope was to have healthy baby boys,” Billy said. “So it’s just another good thing for our family and we’re excited for this new adventure.”

But if you think that the birth of twins in different years is the most interesting thing in this family, think again. Eve’s birthday is December 7, Billy and Ezra share a birthday on December 31, Ezekial is a New Year’s baby, and their oldest son Hezekiah’s birthday is on January 3.

“With all these birthdays spaced 30 days apart, I’ll save 11 months of the year,” Billy said. “Who knows, maybe I’ll get lucky on Father’s Day.”

Eve and Billy, parents of twins Ezekial and Ezra, born in different years, pose for a photo with the newborns on Monday, January 1, 2024.
