New images reveal Johnny Depp to star in first new film since Amber Heard court case | Ents & Arts News

New footage of Hollywood star Johnny Depp shows him in his first film since concluding his multi-million dollar libel case against his former partner Amber Heard.

Photos show Depp in royal attire; a white feathered hat and curly white hair, with a black blindfold, for the upcoming film, Jeanne Du Barry, which is produced by French company Why Not Productions.

It comes after the actor won the now infamous US legal battle earlier this year.

Depp sued his former partner over a 2018 article she wrote for the Washington Post about his experiences as a survivor of domestic violence, which his lawyers say falsely accused him of being an abuser.

Representatives for the actor said he lost work opportunities and high-profile roles, such as his withdrawal from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, following the accusations.

The jurors ruled in his favor after the six-week trial.

Jeanne Du Barry is directed by French filmmaker Maiwenn and reportedly began filming in late July after the trial concluded.

This is Depp’s first major acting role since the 2020 independent film Minamata in which he played war photographer W. Eugene Smith.

He was forced by Warner Bros to leave the Harry Potter spin-off series Fantastic Beasts in 2020 after losing his libel case against The Sun newspaperwho had described him as a “wife beater”.

Jeanne Du Barry follows Jeanne, a young worker who uses her intelligence and looks to climb the social ladder, eventually landing on King Louis XV’s radar.

The cast would also include Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Noémie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory and India Hair.
