To 22 km from the Spanish coast, the sailboat of the navigator Laurent camprubi capsized. Under the hull, an air pocket allowed him to breathe. The nightmare lasted 16 hours. Alerted, the Spanish rescuers managed to get him out of trouble on Thursday August 4th. But at the start of the operation, they could not intervene because the sea was rough. At night, finally, a helicopter managed to drop a rescuer on the boat. He knocked on the hull, and perceived a response.

The rescue operation was perilous. “The biggest concern is that if we made an opening in the hull, on one side, water could enter and drown it, or even cause the sailboat to sink”explains Vicente Cobolohead of the Spanish Maritime Rescue and Safety Society. The rescuers finally managed to secure the boat, and managed to enter it. the skipper was transported by helicopter, in good conditionhypothermia but living. Lawrence camprubi is safe and sound.
