BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — Two-time NASCAR champion Kyle Busch and his family escaped safely from the Mall of America in suburban Minneapolis after someone fired a shot.
Bloomington police, who said no one appeared to be injured, were still searching for a suspect after securing the scene shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday. Police say two groups from the mall got into a fight in a store and one group left, but someone from that group fired three shots.
A video posted on Twitter shows Busch walking away from the chaos while holding the hand of his son, Brexton.
Busch’s wife, Samantha, posted videos to her Instagram story, showing their son winning a youth race event on Wednesday and riding a roller coaster with her husband on Thursday before providing a sobering update after the filming.
“If you see the news on the @mallofamerica we are out and safe,” she posted. “Pray others inside too.”
Kyle Busch, the 2015 and 2019 champion and winner of 60 career Cup races, is due to race in the No. 18 Toyota on Sunday at Michigan International Speedway.
