Naomi Ackie Transforms into Whitney Houston in ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ Trailer

Houston fans can see Ackie, whose credits include roles in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and “Doctor Who,” playing the late singer in a trailer for the film, which was released Thursday.

“From New Jersey backing vocalist to one of the best-selling and most award-winning artists of all time, audiences are taken on an inspiring, poignant and utterly moving journey through Houston’s pioneering life and career,” the official synopsis of the film teased.

“I Wanna Dance with Somebody” is written by Anthony McCarten, who also wrote Freddie Mercury’s 2018 hit biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody.” It is directed by Kasi Lemmons.

The film is produced by Clive Davis, who is played in the film by Stanley Tucci.

Many of Houston’s hit songs are featured in the film, which not only covers career highlights, but also the rocky times the singer went through.

“I Want to Dance With Somebody” hits theaters on December 21.
