Georgia GOP Senate candidate Herschel Walker threw down the gauntlet this week when he challenged MSNBC’s Joy Reid to a debate after she mocked his “erection” gaffe on Fox News.
Reid accepted live on his show Wednesday, telling Walker he could appear on “The ReidOut” any day. But Walker has yet to publicly respond to the invitation.
The exchange began Tuesday when the Donald Trump-endorsed walker, who takes on Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) in a Dec. 6 election runoff, said “this erection” instead of “this election during an appearance by Fox flanked by Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Lindsey Graham (RS.C.).
“Ancestors mourn,” Reid tweeted. “And why does he still need these handlers (who can’t even stop him from embarrassing himself.) Just humiliating.”
The following day, Walker said he “would like to debate” Reid.
“I say, any day of the week that she wants to debate, she can show up here and I will also debate her on any topic,” he said in an interview shared online. “She can find the subject, and let’s go.”
Reid accepted his show later Wednesday.
After all, she would have plenty to grill the former football star – allegations he fathered secret children, pressured ex-partners into having abortions and received a tax exemption for his house in Texas.
“Okay, Herschel, come on,” she said. “No seriously. We contacted your team. We’ll have you on the ‘ReidOut’ any day. And we can debate. Just let us know when.
Reid had one condition, however.
Walker must debate “alone” and not alongside National Republicans such as Cruz and Graham as he has before.
On Thursday, Walker tweeted a Thanksgiving message. He does not appear to have commented on Reid’s offer, however.
