More than 100 cars involved in a major pile-up on the Quebec highway

MONTREAL – A major pile-up on Highway 40 on Saturday afternoon in Yamachiche, Que., Near Trois-Rivières, involved 150 vehicles, according to the provincial transport minister.
“A truck would be at the origin and nearly 150 vehicles would be involved. The area should be avoided, ”wrote Minister François Bonnardel. “Our teams and the (Sûreté du Québec) are on site.”
According to previous information provided by Sergeant Marythé Bolduc of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the initial accident probably occurred around 1 p.m. Subsequently, dozens of other vehicles were involved in the stack.
“According to initial information, several people were injured and one of them suffered serious injuries,” reads a press release from the SQ.
Highway 40 eastbound was still closed mid-afternoon, starting at kilometer 175.
