Monday night football game suspended after Damar Hamlin collapses on the pitch

CINCINNATI — Monday Night’s football game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals was suspended in the first quarter after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field after a collision and was taken by ambulance.

Hamlin’s condition was not known. But after the two coaches met on the pitch, officials announced they had “temporarily suspended the game” as the players made their way to the dressing rooms.

About six minutes from the end of the first quarter, Hamlin tackled Bengals receiver Tee Higgins after a 13-yard catch. Hamlin held on after the tackle but quickly collapsed on the pitch. Coaches rushed to assess Hamlin and an ambulance rushed to the field. Medical staff administered CPR and attended to him for 10 minutes as players from both teams were visibly distraught, with some shedding tears on the touchline.
